TVR, Romania’s national public broadcaster has given a substantial boost to the regional theme of its DTH platform which broadcasts via W2. The new channels represent four regions of Romania: TVR Cluj, TVR Iasi, TVR Timisoara and TVR Craiova. They join TVR 1 (the national public channel), TVR 2 (aimed at a younger audience), TVR Cultural and TVR International as well as two radio stations.
The regional channels are uplinked to W2 as an intermediary step to the launch this spring of TVR Regional which will assemble programmes produced by the existing regional studios, and a new regional studio serving the region of Muntenia (including Bucharest). "Regional programming will broadcast via satellite, ensuring superior image and audio quality and enabling each regional studio to be received in any location in Romanian territory", said Horia Cazan, CTO of Romanian Television. "With the excellent signal strength of Eutelsat’s W2 satellite, Romanians will be able to receive our programmes via cable, and also Direct-to-Home.”
Tudor Giurgiu, President-General Director of Romanian Television (TVR) commented, “TVR Regional is one of the most important projects of Romanian public television, and is designed to offer a public television service especially tailored for local communities”.
